Ford F-150 Diesel vs. Gas vs. EcoBoost®

While it's certainly true that gasoline and diesel have several things in common, there are a number of key distinctions between the two. This is especially true in the cases of both fuel economy and how they operate. First, let's investigate how each of them achieve combustion. Gasoline engines rely on a blend of fuel and air compression which uses spark plugs to ignite the mixture. Conversely, diesel engines use air compression alone to ignite the fuel. Compared to gas, diesel fuel is noticeably more energy-dense which allows it to make more power with a smaller quantity of fuel.

As a result of combining high compression and energy-dense fuel, diesel operates more efficiently as a whole. While EcoBoost® engines narrow the gap between gasoline models and diesel engines by using a blend of direct fuel injection and innovative turbocharging technology, diesels are still better suited for towing and hauling due to their torque-heavy nature.
